![]() ![]() Mikoto on the other hand fit really well with the premise Kamachi tried to portray i.e, 80% of the population in Academy city are students. You have Stiyl with a barcode on his face, smokes cigarettes and wears black robes you have Kanzaki who wears jeans but the fabric is almost torn off for one leg which while is appealing in its own way it raises a few eyebrows from a symmetrical design sense and then you have Index with her nun attire which while beautiful on it's own didn't blend well with the established premise in OT1(which was intentional). While a bland design in general doesn't ignite immediate interest for a character it really worked out for Mikoto because the other characters in OT1 had designs which were more 'eccentric' than 'appealing' from a fashion viewpoint. According to Kamachi's interview her short hair was just a decision they made to prevent a design clash with Index(the character), other than that it's really just a normal uniform for a Japanese schoolgirl. Yes, 'bland', but that doesn't imply it's bad, it's just not standout-ish. Normal/Bland design and a good first impression The question is, what makes her so instantly noticeable/lovable/sellable? I've tried to analyse that by objectively focusing on three facets that her characterisation clubbed with her design provides.ฤก. She has dominated the Kono Light novel polls for a long time, Shanghai based video sharing site Bilibili was named after "Biribiri" which is Mikoto's nickname(much to her chagrin) in the Index Universe, hilariously a website even used the kanji used to describe her attack for a real life Railgun. ![]() ![]() ![]() Misaka Mikoto is one of the most popular characters in the Japanese LN industry (and arguably beyond it as well). ![]()
